Abstract
ABSTRACT Mulikah, Zukhrufin Fu’addati. Registered Number Student 17231431 90. 2018. “Students’ Motivation in Learning English in MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi Blitar” Thesis. English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, M.Pd Keywords: survey, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation Motivation is combination of desire and effort made to achieve a goal. Motivation is the key of success in learning teaching process. Without motivation, the goal of learning is difficult to be reached. By having motivation, students will be enthusiastic in learning process so they will be pushed to study English well. The formulation of the research problems were: 1) How is the students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English in MTs Darul Huda Wondadi Blitar? 2) How is the students’ extrinsic motivation in learning English in MTs Darul Huda Wondadi Blitar?. The purpose of this research were to: 1) To know students’ intrinsic motivation in learning English in MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi Blitar, 2) To know students’ extrinsic motivation in learning English in MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi Blitar. This study used descriptive quantitative with survey design. This study used the whole of population research, that was 81 students of VIII grade of MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi Blitar. Research instrument that is used to collect the data were questionnaire. The method of data analysis was in the form of percentage. The research shows that 1) the students’ intrinsic motivation of VIII grade of MTs Darul Hud are: a) All of students have motivation from within self to be smart in learning English b) Students feel need to learn English. c) the students learn English because have aspiration in the future. 2) the students’ extrinsic motivation of VIII grade of MTs Darul Huda are: a) the most students like to learn English because they want to get praise from parents, teacher, and friends. b) The way of teacher’s teaching can affect the students to achieve the goal in learning English. c) the most students can learn if the room are clean, cool, and in the quite atmosphere. The result of this research is showed from analyzing the data. It shows that the score of the students’ intrinsic motivation is 43% and the students’ extrinsic motivation is 57%. It is mean that the student in MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi Blitar have higher extrinsic motivation than intrinsic motivation. Students motivated by external encourage such as: appreciation from others, interesting activity, and conducive environment that affect in their learning English. They believe that external source can help them to achieve the goal in learning English.
