Abstract
ABSTRACT Shifa’, Devi Azizatus (17203163049). The Effectiveness of Using Video Blog (Vlog) on Students’ Speaking Skill of Descriptive Text of the 8th Grade at MTsN 4 Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2020. Advisor : Dr. Susanto, SS., M.Pd. Keywords : Video Blog (Vlog), Speaking Skill, Descriptive Text Speaking is one of important English language skills to be mastered to communicate with other people. Learning English speaking skill is not easy since it requires the students to take hard efforts to learn and practice English speaking. Because of that, an effective teaching media is much needed especially for learners. In teaching learning process, the teacher needs media to convey the material easier. One of the media that can make students to be more interested in learning English is using Video Blog (Vlog). This study was done to prove or to verify whether or not video blog (vlog) was effective media to improve students’ speaking descriptive text. The purpose of this study was to know whether there is significant different score in speaking descriptive text of the 8th grade students taught by using Video Blog (Vlog) and those taught by using a conventional strategy. This study used quasi-experimental design which belonged to quantitative approach by using two group pre-test and post-test. The population was eighth grade students at MTsN 4 Tulungagung. The sample was 64 students chosen through purposive sampling technique. Quantitative data were taken from students’ score in speaking descriptive text. Reseach instruments of this study was administering pre test and post-test from the two classes. Method of data analysis used computing statistical in the form of independent T-test by using spss 16.0 for windows. The results of Independent T-test showed that the sign value was 0,000 and it was lower than 0,05. Hence, there was significances different score of the group taught by using Video Blog (Vlog) and the group taught by using conventional strategies. That is why null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Thus, Video Blog (Vlog) was effective to improve students’ speaking skill of descriptive text.
