Abstract

ABSTRACT Kusmayati, Rizta Ayu. Student Registered Number. 2813133102. 2017. Educational Values found in the “3 Idiots” Movie Directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Thesis. English Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: values, movie, educational values, human intelligence. Education in Indonesia is very large. One of them is informal education. Informal education is educational streaming in the family and environment. So, informal education becomes the important things to create the character of children. Here, the parents have to guide and monitor how their children do their activities. One of their activities is what they watch. Almost all children like to watch movie. Movie is the literary works which is close by us and we cannot avoid from it. Parents have to choose a good movie for children, because movie can give influence to their character and their intelligence. One of the inspiring movies is 3 Idiots movie. Parents and children can get the values in that movie and apply it in the daily life. Therefore, the researcher is interested in analyzing educational values found in the 3 Idiots movie and classified it into 3 kinds of human intelligence. Thus, the purposes of this research are to elaborate educational values found in 3 Idiots movie and to know the classification of it. The research design used in this thesis was library research. The data were in the form of dialogues containing educational values taken from screenplay of the 3 Idiots movie. In the collecting of the data, the researcher used documentation method, because the research design was library research. To get the credibility and dependability the researcher used peer debriefing strategy and used the technique of inter rater and intra rater data observation. Finding of this research were showed 10 educational values found in 3 Idiots movie: honesty, working hard, creativity, democracy, curiousity, appreciating achievement, communicative, loving peace, social sensitivity, and responsibility. Then, from those values the researcher classified it into IQ, EQ, and SQ. Communicative belongs to IQ. Hard work, social, and responsible belong to EQ. Honest, creative, democratic, curious, appreciating achievement, and love peace belong to SQ. As the conclusion, the dominant intelligence is Spiritual Quotients, because there are 6 values that belong to it. So, in the movie the children not only get the educational values, but also can improve their intelligence.
