Abstract
ABSTRACT Syaiful Ma’arif. Student Registered Number.3213113151. 2015. “Teaching and Learning Speaking at the Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain Baruharjo Durenan Trenggalek”. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Hj. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. Keywords: teaching and learning speaking activities, student problems. The language used by people in the world is to get the one aim that is to communicate with another people. The important of English position as a language for international communication. So that, the teaching speaking and learning speaking skill has become increasingly important in world language live. Learning English is not only in formal institution but also non-formal institution can present the language acquisition such as learning English in Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain. The formulation of the research problems were: 1) How is teaching and learning speaking at the Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain? 2) What are the student problems during teaching and learning speaking at Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain? The purposes of this study were to: 1) To analyze how are teaching and learning speaking to the Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain. 2) To know the student problems during teaching and learning speaking in the Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain. Research Method: 1) The research design in this research was descriptive research. 2) The subject of this research was teaching and learning speaking at the Islamic Boarding School of Anwarul Haromain. 3) The research instruments were observation guide, interview sheet, and documentation. The research findings were; the teaching and learning speaking are conducted in the following practices is Material, Activities, Media, and Evaluation. To support the process of teaching and learning, the teacher provides setting activities. There activities are; daily activities, weekly activities, and monthly activities. The daily activities such as; English day, vocabulary class, conversation class, and grammar class. The weekly activities such as; drilling vocabulary and debate. The monthly activities such as; pentas seni santri or language contest. There were two student problems of teaching and learning speaking. Those are Grammar and knowledge vocabulary, and Understanding other speech.
